Amy Johnson

Hello! I’m Amy Johnson, a Certified Family Peer Supporter (CFPS) at Mares Cares Counseling. I work out of our Arch Street location, where I provide strength-based, empathetic support to families navigating the complex challenges of mental illness, substance use disorders, and the systems of care that surround them. My approach is deeply rooted in lived experience and grounded in the belief that every family deserves to be treated with empathy, dignity, and respect as they build resilience and move toward healing.

I specialize in supporting families who are dealing with co-occurring diagnoses and substance use. My lived experience includes suicide prevention and intervention, trauma recovery, and supporting neurodivergent individuals. I work to create a peer-focused environment where families feel heard, empowered, and supported in setting and reaching their wellness and recovery goals. While I’m new to the field of family peer support, I bring hands-on experience from my previous roles as a teacher’s aide in special needs preschools from 2018 to 2021. During that time, I worked closely with children diagnosed with speech delays, muscular dystrophy, sensory processing disorder, ADHD, FASD, Down syndrome, and ASD. These experiences continue to inform my compassionate and individualized approach with families today.

I am available for in-person sessions Monday through Thursday from 9:00am to 2:00pm and Fridays from 12:00pm to 3:00pm. I also offer virtual sessions and, depending on family needs, in-home sessions or meetings in out-of-office environments. Coordinating and delivering services in these flexible settings is one of my logistical specialties! I’m committed to meeting families where they are, both emotionally and physically. If the times I have listed available do not work for you, please reach out, as my schedule has some flexibility.

Outside of work, I’m the proud mother of five brilliant children and married to my lifelong best friend! I enjoy playing board games and Super Mario Bros with my family, exploring the area’s beautiful state parks, and spending time with poetry, photography, historical documentaries, and creative projects like refinishing furniture and home décor. I look forward to connecting with you and walking alongside your family on your journey!
