Heather Sommers

I am a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) with specialized training in addiction and trauma. For several years, I have worked in the substance use field, including extensive experience with dual diagnosis treatment addressing the underlying mental health conditions that often contribute to substance use disorders.

In addition, I am a Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor (LICDC) and am deeply passionate about walking alongside clients throughout their recovery journeys. I have experience working with diverse populations and utilize a variety of evidence-based therapeutic modalities, including EMDR, to provide individualized, compassionate care tailored to each client’s needs.

 

For the past few years, I've been dedicated to serving individuals at Mares Cares through family therapy and parenting guidance. In my approach to counseling, I firmly believe in the importance of being a reliable support system for my clients. However, I also recognize the necessity of being rigorously honest, even when the truth may be difficult to hear. It's a philosophy I hold close to my heart as I walk alongside individuals on their journey towards healing and growth.

For those wondering about availability, I have openings on Fridays, and some on Tuesdays/Wednesdays throughout the month.

Outside of my professional life, my greatest joys come from spending time with my children and family. But when I do find a rare moment of free time, you'll likely find me immersed in a good book, exploring new worlds and perspectives.
